Memory of Russia: The exhibition "Reigning intercessor of Russia. To the 100th anniversary of the abdication of Nicholas II" in Kolomenskoye

March 1, 2017 in the exhibition halls of the monument of architecture "Rich Yard" at the Museum-Reserve "Kolomenskoye" (Moscow) to the public will be open an exhibition "Reigning intercessor of Russia. To the 100th anniversary of the abdication of Emperor Nicholas II from the throne and gaining in Kolomenskoye of the icon "Our Lady Sovereign", which will run until June 25, 2017.

Icon "Our Lady Sovereign" was attained on March 2, 1917 in the Church of the Ascension, located in the estate of Russian Tsars Kolomenskoye.

Finding the icon coincided with a watershed event in the history of Russia of XX century - the abdication of Emperor Nicholas II from the throne, caused by the February 1917 revolution.

The exhibition raises questions about the relationship of government and society, the state and the church, and the desecration of finding relics, moral revival and the reunification of the "Russian world".

The subject range of the exhibition is more than 200 exhibits, including the royal family relics, unique evidence of the February 1917 revolution. Materials on the First World War, the February uprising in Petrograd and overthrow the monarchy are presented. Subject intercession of the Blessed Virgin is revealed on the monuments of ancient iconography. It is prepared an electronic exposure based on newsreel shots, documents, photographs.

History of the Reigning Icon of the Mother of God is given from the date of its acquisition, and can be traced throughout the XX century. In 1929 the icon was placed in the storerooms of the State Historical Museum, and in 1990 returned to Kolomenskoye in the Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.

During the exhibition a number of activities are planned. On the day of celebration of the 100th anniversary of the finding of the Reigning Icon of March 15 for the participants will be screened the festive liturgy. May 17 (10-year anniversary of the Act of Canonical Communion between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, signed in Moscow, in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior May 17, 2007) will be presented the multimedia version of the exhibition in the Russian science and culture centers in several foreign countries.
