Society and Book Culture: The exhibition "War and Peace" in graphics by Alexander Melikhov" in Yasnaya Polyana

The Gallery "Yasnaya Polyana" (the Tula region) on February 21, 2017 opens the exhibition "War and Peace" in graphics by Alexander Melikhov".

The exhibition presents a series of watercolor paintings by the artist especially for the publication of "War and Peace", released by the publishing house "Fiction" to the 200th anniversary of the Patriotic War of 1812. The author has worked over illustrations for seven years. The exhibition will be accompanied by watercolors quotations from the novel. 

Works by Melikhov are made by several decorative manners which is reminiscent of the technique book miniatures. His work is characterized by a desire to visualize an era of scrupulous encyclopedic interest to detail. Thus, in the series "War and Peace" it is observed an absolute historical identity in the image of suits, the situation and the military uniforms of various military units, both Russian, and with a hostile party. No less attention is paid to the artist and peaceful aspects of life, whether it is a ball, a theater, a christening, hunting, birthday party or the Christmas festivities. 

Alexander Vasilievich Melikhov (1942) - a well-known graphic artist, author of illustrations to literary works from different eras and cultures. Illustrated books came out not only in Russia but also abroad - in the Czech Republic, China, France. His works were exhibited in Bulgaria, Poland, Germany, Yugoslavia, Austria, the UK. Book of graphics by A.V. Melikhov on the works of Russian classics in recent years has become an integral part of promotion of Russian literature abroad.
