History and Culture: The exhibition "The Icon-painting image of John the Baptist" in Kolomenskoye

From July 22 to November 12, 2017, in the Church of St. George the Victorious in Kolomenskoye, the Moscow State Unified Museum-Reserve presents the exhibition "The icon-painting image of John the Baptist".

Visitors will have the opportunity to get familiar with the variety of icon-painting images of John the Baptist, presented in both icons and graphics. These works reflect the main stages of his life and prayer deeds. John the Baptist is one of the most important saints worshiped by Christians around the world. His life path is unique and does not resemble the life of any saint from conception to death.

Visitors can get familiar with icons from the collections of the museum-reserve, the oldest of which is the icon of the XVI century with the life of John the Baptist in 24 hallmarks, as well as with ancient books with life and services dedicated to John the Baptist.

In the window there is a lithograph of 1889 depicting the Church of the Beheading of the head of John the Baptist, located on the territory of the museum-reserve.
