To the 100th anniversary of the Revolution of 1917: Exhibition "1917. Moscow and Muscovites" is opened in the capital

25 August 2017

August 25, 2017 in the Russian State Library of Arts (Moscow) is opened the exhibition "1917. Moscow and Muscovites", which in the year of the century of the revolution is designed to show the daily life of Moscow in 1917 through the unique materials of the Russian State Library for the Information Society, the State Tretyakov Gallery and the Union of Russian Filokartists.

For the first time from the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery, a collection of photographs with views of Moscow from 1918 to the 1920s is on display. Cultural figures and Muscovites tried to preserve the city, it was also compiled an inventory of all the mansions and palaces of Moscow, which had an artistic and historical value. For this purpose, a systematic and ubiquitous photographic fixation of the buildings was carried out. Many Moscow photographers were involved in it, including A. V. Lyadov and M. S. Gnuni, whose pictures are shown at the exhibition. The State Tretyakov Gallery’s photo archive kept their work, allowing today to see Moscow, what it was right after the revolution, where and in what conditions Muscovites lived at that time.
