Birth of Dmitry I. Ilovaiskiy, historian, writer of political essays
11 (23) February 1832, in the town of, Ryazan province (now Chaplygin, Lipetsk region) in the family of a tradesman was born Dmitry Ivanovich Ilovaiskiy, historian, teacher and writer of political essays.
He graduated from the state-owned district school of Ranenburg, and the 1st gymnasium of Ryazan.
In 1850-1854 Ilovaiskiy studied at the History and Philology faculty of the Moscow University. In knowledge and success in the sciences, Dmitry Ivanovich was among the first students of the university. After graduation, Ilovaiskiy wanted to enter military service, but was declined as a result of suspicion of tuberculosis.
In November 1854 Ilovaiskiy was appointed "senior teacher of the subject of history" in his home school. Nearly four years were filled with busy teaching, scientific research, travel to Ryazan antiquities, publishing articles in local and metropolitan newspapers, taking of examinations and writing of master's thesis. In Ryazan he began his first 16 essays, including the one immediately noticed by the scientific community, "History of the Ryazan principality." This work, awarded the Uvarov Prize of the Academy of Sciences, is still valued.
In 1858, thanks to Count A. S Uvarov, Dmitry Ivanovich was transferred to Moscow as a senior teacher of the 3rd Moscow school on Lubyanka str.
After moving to Moscow, Ilovaiskiy had not interrupted his relations with Ryazan land: he sent there his books that are currently held by the Research Library of the Ryazan Local History Museum-Reserve.
Ilovaiskiy taught for some time at Moscow University, but left the service in 1862 and devoted his life to science, journalism and publishing textbooks. Over 30 years he had worked on the multivolume "History of Russia", had done a lot to learn the Slavic. His doctoral thesis was devoted to Grodno Seim, the last Seim last of the Commonwealth. His biographical works on the educators of the eighteenth century, E. R. Dashkova and N. I. Novikov, are also quite Interesting.
After the release of the Manifesto of 17 (30) October, 1905, and the revolutionary events of 1905-1907 Ilovaiskiy changed his moderately conservative views to the radical-conservative ones, and entered into a number of monarchist organizations such as the Russian Assembly, the Union of Russian People. In 1897-1916, Dmitry Ivanovich published "The Kremlin" right-conservative newspaper, which consisted mostly of his own publications.
The last years of his life Ilovaiskiy had been criticized for his textbooks, some of the theories and hypotheses. But even his most outspoken detractors noted his lively language, imagery, and the brightness of presentation, presentation of history through people, heroism and patriotism.
Dmitry Ivanovich Ilovaiskiy died February 15, 1920.
