The 75th anniversary of the revival of the Cadet Movement in Russia was celebrated in the Presidential library in Russia
Today, April 5, 2018, a conference-webinar "Cadet Day in the Presidential Library", timed to the 75th anniversary of the creation of the first Suvorov and Nakhimov schools, was held.
In his opening speech, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation - First Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, graduate of the Kazan Suvorov Military School, Hero of Russia, Army General Valery Gerasimov recalled that the revival of the Cadet movement occurred at the height of the Great Patriotic War. August 21, 1943 in the national newspapers of the country a government decree "On urgent measures to restore the economy in areas liberated from the German occupation" was published. This document is stored in the electronic library of the Presidential Library. The 10th point of the decree was dedicated to "organizing for the children of soldiers of the Red Army and partisans of the Patriotic War, as well as orphans whose parents died at the hands of the German invaders - Suvorov Military Schools, special vocational schools, special children's homes of distributors". Soon the Navy commander-in-chief Nikolai Kuznetsov decided to organize a system of naval educational institutions of the same type, giving them the name of the great Russian naval commander P. S. Nakhimov. "Since then, graduates of Cadet Schools have created many glorious pages in the war chronicle of the Fatherland, reached the highest heights in the development of national science and technology. And today the Suvorovites and Nakhimovs with dignity and honor bear military service in the army and the Navy", - Valery Gerasimov emphasized.
Anton Gryaznov, head of the Working Group on Cadet Education under the Public Chamber of St. Petersburg, chairman of the St. Petersburg Union of Suvorov, Nakhimov and Cadets, noted: "It is no coincidence that the Cadet Day is held at the Presidential Library in St. Petersburg, because it is our city that is the cadet capital of Russia. Today, here is the largest number of cadet schools - 30, both military and civilian".
The history of cadet education in Russia has more than three hundred years. On January 25, 1701, by the order of Peter I, a school of mathematical and navigational sciences was opened (the Navigational School), which became the forerunner of the whole modern system of engineering and technical education. Such historical publications from the electronic library of the Presidential Library as the “First Cadet Corps” of 19016, the Beginning of the Naval Cadet Corps in 1899, compiled from archival materials, a historical essay "The Landed Gentry Cadet Corps" (now 1st Cadet Corps) under the Count of the Miniche" in 1907 and many others.
