In Sofia, the two-day scientific and analytical seminar "Russian-Bulgarian Relationship: State and Prospects. The View of the Youth", organized by the Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Support Fund with the assistance of the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in the Republic of Bulgaria has been completed. Sixteen young political scientists from Russia and Bulgaria on the site of the Russian Cultural and Information Center in Sofia conducted round tables and panel discussions with the participation of prominent Bulgarian and Russian experts and politicians.

The contacts of the peoples of Russia and Bulgaria have been existed for more than a thousand years, -  noted, opening the scientific part of the seminar Iskra Baeva, a historian and professor at the Sofia University "Sveti Kliment Ohridski". According to her, in the XIX century, the image of Russia as the emancipator of Bulgaria was established. It was after the victory in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878 that Russia contributed to the creation of all state institutions in a new independent country.

The program of the seminar was continued at the round table "The situation in the Black Sea region. The main problems and challenges" under the chairmanship of the famous Bulgarian politician Yevgeny Kirilov

The second day of the seminar was opened by the deputy head of the Institute of Energy and Finance Alexei Belogoriev. He presented a comprehensive picture of energy cooperation between Russia and the EU, separately focusing on the interaction of Moscow and Sofia in this area.

Panel discussion "Trade-economic and political relations between Russia and the European Union in conditions of mutual distrust. Ways out of the impasse" was conducted by the Associate Professor of the Department of Modern and Contemporary History of Sofia University Doctor of Historical Sciences Darina Grigorova and the Chairman of the Board of the Black Sea Wine Forum Vitaly Merkushev.

At the round table, they came to the conclusion that Moscow and Sofia need not to limit themselves to economics and energy, but to strengthen cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

Having heard and discussed the reports, the participants developed joint proposals and recommendations. They deal with ways to improve relations between Russia and Bulgaria, as well as Russia and the EU.

The portal of the Presidential Library features the electronic collection "Russia-Bulgaria: from the history of relationship", which includes official documents, archive files, studies and other materials covering the socio-political and cultural development of Bulgaria and certain issues of relations between Bulgaria and Russia in various historical periods.
