Maecenas and Benefactor Day in the Sverdlovsk region

On April 13, on Maecenas and Benefactor Day, employees of the Sverdlovsk Regional Center of the Presidential Library, acting on the basis of the V. G. Belinsky Sverdlovsk Regional Universal Scientific Library, invited readers to a detailed conversation about the culture of volunteerism and historical memory. The Sverdlovsk Regional Center of the Presidential Library has not even a month, and the Maecenas Day has become a kind of presentation of resources for citizens.

Dialogue with colleagues "Resources of the Presidential Library in the daily work of a librarian" was directed to the training of more than 50 specialists of cultural and educational institutions of the Sverdlovsk region and students of the direction "Library and Information Activities". Participants in the dialogue became readers of the Presidential Library and in the format of a lecture-workshop they were able to practice in the search and analysis of documents from its fund. The staff of the regional center gave consultations and shared their experience in preparing book exhibitions and thematic events on the basis of this resource.

In the course of the day excursions were organized for the citizens of the V. G. Belinsky Library under the name "120 years: from hand-written books to electronic collections". During the walk you could learn about the rich history of the library and about the modern information resources that it has.

The meeting "Historical Traditions of Volunteering" became the moment of searching for answers to questions that are of concern to many volunteers. The role of the state and business in the development of volunteerism, the boundaries of the concept of "volunteer", factors that are important for the successful work of the non-profit association, - the guests touched on these and other important topics.

Books and magazines presented in open access in the hall of the Sverdlovsk Regional Center of the Presidential Library were transferred to the library by the foundation “The History Center of the Sverdlovsk Region”, most of them were collected by the historian and political scientist Professor A. D. Kirillov. At a meeting with the citizens, he told about the collection, shared stories related to these publications, his thoughts on patronage and support of culture. All guests received a gift from the patron of art - books-miniatures dedicated to the head of state.

Within the day, films from the series "Maecenas of Russia" were broadcasted in the hall, for example, the documentary film "Demidovs" (N. Sviderskaya, K. Zakharov, A. Pankratov worked on the film) stored on the Internet portal of the Presidential Library. In addition, on this day in the Sverdlovsk Regional Center the exhibition "Magnanimity - True Wealth" was opened.

The Presidential Library and the Sverdlovsk Region have been maintaining partnership relations since 2013. On the website of the Presidential Library the region is represented by the collection "Sverdlovsk region: Pages of History". It contains electronic copies of studies, essays and photographs of the XIX - early XX century. Materials are introduced to the geographical, demographic, socio-economic and socio-political aspects of the history of the region.
