The prospects of the Mars exploration were discussed at the lectures in Chisinau

18 April 2018

A lecture dedicated to the Cosmonautics Day was held at a regular meeting of the Astroclub at the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Chisinau.

The lecturer - the physicist-astronomer Sergey Luka - familiarized the audience with curious facts from the history of space exploration and the life of cosmonauts, and also spoke about the prospects of space exploration. Special interest among listeners was caused by the message that theoretically the Earth is ready for the colonization of Mars. First of all, it is necessary to solve the ethical issue with the impossibility of returning the expedition to Earth, and then many technical difficulties. Concepts are being developed to transform the atmosphere of Mars in order to make it the closest to the Earth.

There is a private project "Mars One", which assumes a flight to Mars with the subsequent foundation of a colony on its surface and the broadcast of everything that happens on television. Already by 2023 it is planned to deliver the first four people to the red planet, now candidates are being actively selected. At the end of the qualifying series, 6 groups of 4 people will join the “Mars One” squadron of astronauts, after which they will prepare for the mission. Those who wish, which are not too few, it is necessary to fill out an application on the project website. Approved candidates are included in the group for flight preparation. The journey to Mars will take about 7 months.

On the portal of the Presidential Library everyone can get familiar with the electronic collection "Open Space", which includes fragments of newsreels, periodicals, books reflecting various milestones in the development of Russian cosmonautics.
