Konstantin Khabensky presented film “Sobibor” at the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Prague
The new Russian film “Sobibor” had its premier in the Czech Republic. The event was organized by the organizing committee of the Festival of Independent Cinema in Prague with the support of the Rossotrudnichestvo office and the Russian Embassy in the Czech Republic.
A press conference of the director and performer of the leading role of Konstantin Khabensky was held on the eve of the premiere of the film at the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Prague. Correspondents of the leading Czech publications took part in the event.
The press conference was opened by the Acting Head of the Rossotrudnichestvo Representative Office in the Czech Republic, Andrei Konchakov, who emphasized the importance of the premiere of the film on the eve of the 73rd anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the liberation of Czechoslovakia from the fascist occupation. He recalled that Prague was finally liberated by troops of the First Ukrainian Front under the command of Marshal Ivan Stepanovich Konev.
People's Artist of Russia Konstantin Khabensky said that the film was addressed to people who can feel, who are able to empathize, not afraid of their emotions. According to him, the film is based on strictly documentary material: archival documents, memories of participants in the events. At the same time there is a personal view of the creative team, as it tells not only about the events, but also about what happened first of all in the minds and souls of people, shows the point beyond which the limit to any human patience comes. The director emphasized that he wanted to "leave the detective, not show the technical preparation of the insurrection, but, on the contrary, wanted to show what led to this emotional motive - the motive of fear, the motive of the sense of death, the motive of love arising at the most inopportune moment in the very unsuitable place".
In the evening on the same day the premiere of the film in the cinema "Dlabachov" in Prague took place. Tickets were sold out before the day of the show.
During the press conference at the RCSC and before the show in the foyer of the cinema visitors could see the exhibition "The Holocaust: Destruction, Release, Salvation", prepared by the Holocaust scientific and educational center and the Russian Jewish Congress.
