The Presidential Library’s historical materials spotlight the Day of Russia

12 June 2018

The Day of Russia is celebrated in our country on June 12. It was on this day in 1990 that the First Congress of People's Deputies of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR) adopted the Declaration of the State Sovereignty of Russia, which proclaimed the primacy of the Russian Constitution and its laws. The day of adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Russian Federation was given the status of the state holiday by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of June 2, 1994. Since June 16, 1998, the holiday has been called the Day of Russia, but it was only on February 1, 2002 that it officially received a new name, when the provisions of the new Labor Code came into effect.

The Presidential Library provides access to unique documents and materials related to such a momentous holiday for the whole country.
