13 June 2018

The Presidential Library carries on developing cooperation with Germany. On June 12, 2018 a remote access center to the information resources of the Presidential Library was opened in Regensburg. It is located in the Leibniz-Institute for East and Southeast European Studies.

Now, residents and guests of Regensburg are gaining access to unique archival documents, rare books, rare audio and video recordings from the Presidential Library’s holdings, which today number over 600,000 items. Among them there is an electronic collection «Russia – Germany: from the history of relationship», which features studies, essays, collections of official documents that highlight some pages of the history of Germany since the 9th century, as well as the history of diplomatic, military, economic and cultural ties of two countries between the middle of 17th century and the beginning of the 20th century.

It should be noted that this is already the fourth electronic reading room of the Presidential Library opened in Germany. Three other centers are opened in Berlin, Munich and Dresden.

For many years the Presidential Library has been working closely with German institutions. Among the recent large-scale international projects is the exhibition of the first color photographs of the Russian Empire by Sergei Prokudin-Gorsky from the Presidential Library's holdings. The exposition was widely represented in Berlin, Frankfurt, Dresden and Leipzig.

At present 38 remote access centers of the Presidential Library have been opened in 29 countries, including Great Britain, Finland, Bulgaria, Italy, the Czech Republic, Hungary and several others.
