Young Keen Readers’ Club at the Presidential Library’s regional center in Penza

The staff of the Presidential Library’s regional center, which operates at Lermontov Penza Regional Library launched a game of the young keen readers’ club for pupils of school № 76.

In the beginning the children learnt about the process of making manuscripts and first printed books, and discovered the process of book digitization.

During the game all the participants had a chance to work in the Electronic Reading Room of the Presidential Library. They took great interest in the issues of “Murzilka” children’s magazine dated 1934. In the № 9 issue children found a page dedicated to Ivan Krylov, read his «Swan, Pike and Crawfish» fable by roles and learned that it is very important to cooperate. They worked hard on a “Word strings” code and managed to do a puzzle. As a result, they had an opportunity to deal with letters of the first Slavic alphabet and decode the phase ciphered in Glagolitic script.

Participants of the educational game became members of young keen readers’ club and were given colorful membership cards.

Penza region is in spotlight of the «Penza Region: Pages of History» collection available on the website of the Presidential Library. The collection includes archival documents, essays, studies and statistical materials which reflect the demographic, geographic, socio-economic, socio-political and other aspects of history of Penza region between the end of the 18th century and the first third of the 20th century.
