24 July 2018

The eighth album of winners of the "Foreign View” contest of the Presidential Library under the motto "Ecology of Life" has been released. The themes of the beauty of the outside world and its preservation in the age of man-made impact on nature, awareness of the need for environmental education of the younger generation are more important than ever, which was reflected by contest participants in their works.

Through their photo and video materials, the authors tried to draw attention to environmental problems. Participant from St. Petersburg sent a series of photographs of the scientific expedition on the ship "Elisabeth Mann Borgese" within the framework of the "BioBind" project, because of the oil spill cleanup on the Baltic Sea.

The nomination "Ecology of Life" highlighted photographs of the international volunteer project for saving turtles in Mexico. The winner in this category, resident of Petersburg, Dmitry Sharomov, presented an expressive reportage that depicted a trip on a raft of plastic bottles; it was formed by a Polish schoolgirl Susanna along with her friends - not for naughtiness, but to draw attention of the authorities and the public to the problem of pollution of the Vistula, one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe. Adolescents walked along the entire length of the Vistula on a raft to the Baltic Sea.

"Magic Hills" by Alexander Chazov were the best in the nomination "Protected Land". The author of the photograph during the expedition to China found fantastic karst rocks, framing the Li River. Vasily Yakovlev, who became the first in the nomination "Miracles of the animal world", photographed a cartoon-like "hare in the fog" in the emerald fields of South Moravia - the wine-growing region of the Czech Republic. From the slope of the high mountain, Elena Safonova, who won the category "Switzerland through the eyes of Russians", photographed the soft hills of the foothills.

The album "Foreign View" - 2017 once again confirmed that the multi-media project designed to capture contemporary reality, to imprint the distinctive character of a particular country, to show things in common and cooperation between Russia and countries of the world cultures has become one of the most popular and dynamically developing project of the Presidential Library. 3603 works were sent to the contest. The results of their work were shared by participants from more than 20 countries of the world, 60 cities and populated points of Russia. The organizers noted the expansion of not only the geography of the contest, but also its themes, genres and formats. In 2017 the photo contest received the status of a multimedia contest.
