The Presidential Library and the Main Scientific Computing Center are developing cooperation

Two subordinate ones to the Administrative Department of the President of the Russian Federation – the Presidential Library and the Main Scientific Computing Center – signed a continuous cooperation agreement.

As part of the strategic partnership with GlavNIVTS, the Presidential Library will continue to implement the latest information technologies and practices, which have no analogues either in the Russian or foreign library system. In particular, we are talking about improving the services of searching and storing data, about changing disks to new technological methods of software.

The Presidential Library and GlavNIVTS jointly will form a unified information space in the field of history, theory and practice of Russian statehood and the Russian language as the state language of the Russian Federation as part of the implementation of Presidential Decree № 326-rp of June 18, 2007.

In addition, the agreements imply concerted actions to promote achievements of Russian and world culture and support new areas of educational activities coinciding with the interests of the state.

The two organizations will hold joint scientific and practical conferences, seminars, working meetings, participate in each other's activities, interact on information security issues, test promising IT solutions and etc.

Particular attention will be paid to the development of a long-term strategy for the development of the information system of the Presidential Library, including the operation of software and hardware complexes, a data processing center, a multimedia technology complex, a scanning center, multimedia and exhibition halls, local computer, Internet and telephone networks of the Presidential Library. All described above can be called the experimental creative shop of the newest technologies in the sphere of culture.

The Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Main Scientific Computing Center" of the Administrative Department of the Russian Federation has been operating on the information technology market for more than 30 years.

GlavNIVTS specializes in providing comprehensive information solutions, in particular on the creation of data processing centers, video conferencing and multimedia complexes, mobile complexes for technical support of events of various formats, on the formation of digital content using the capabilities of the scanning and imaging center.

More than 30 million scanned versions of documents in the Presidential Library collections have been executed in cooperation with GlavNIVTS. The Presidential Library has formed a unique center for digitizing and processing documents, managed by a specially developed software package. Technical equipment and software allow to realize the full cycle, from the selection of primary sources, digitization of documents from various source media, including microforms, newspapers, especially valuable early printed books and manuscripts, before loading the final product into database.

The Presidential Library is running as a nationwide electronic storage of digital copies of the most important documents on the history, theory and practice of Russian statehood, the Russian language, and also as a multimedia multifunctional (cultural, educational, research, information-analytical center) that has the status of the national library of Russia.

Located in the center of St. Petersburg, the Presidential Library holds structural units in Moscow (Reserve Center) and Tyumen (a branch in Tyumen Region) and has a developed infrastructure that includes remote access centers in all major cities of Russia and several cities around the world.
