In memory of “Angel’s guardian”
“The Legendary Man” exposition, that has been opened in the Presidential Library in commemoration of 95th birthday of Mikhail Mikhailovich Bobrov, will become one of the memorials to this remarkable man. What is more, the film dedicated to Mikhail Mikhailovich is nearing the completion. The film will feature his interviews and materials of meetings at the Presidential Library, including the last recording made in Komarovo shortly before his birthday.
The Presidential Library’s obituary of Mikhail Bobrov reads: “Just a week and a half ago together with Mikhail Mikhailovich we celebrated his 95th birthday ‒ though, separated by the screen: Mikhail Mikhailovich stayed in Komarovo and watched the event launched in the multimedia hall of the Presidential Library via the broadcast on the website. The celebration brought together his kith and kin – sons, a granddaughter and many friends, who stepped forward to the microphone to remember the specific circumstances which had linked them with this extraordinary man. Viktor Boyarsky, former Director of the Arctic and Antarctic Museum, recalled that he had reached the North Pole accompanied by Mikhail Bobrov, and the latter despite his age - he was 75 - put the flag of St. Petersburg “on the top of the earth”.
The obituary highlights: “One single life, was however so eventful, that it could have been made up of ten. He was the man of the outstanding versatility, who took an interest in everything genuinely extraordinary, the gifted nature of our people. Risking his life in the cold and starving Leningrad he camouflaged architectural landmarks, covered the spire of the Peter and Paul Fortress and its Angel flying over the city, and guarded it against a disaster.
It would be not easy to get over the death of Mikhail Mikhailovich. He was respected for the “iconostasis” of decorations on his chest and the high status of the honorary citizen of St. Petersburg.
He was loved for being a brave, profound and great man and along with this for being simple in the best sense of the word, cultured and sociable.
We will always remember Mikhail Mikhailovich Bobrov. Every time we met with him proved to be a real event”.
