Representatives of libraries, archives and museums met at the Senate, 3 to discuss the work with the "figure"

On Friday, October 5, 2018, the Presidential Library hosted a plenary session of the IX Research Practical Conference “Cultural Heritage: Integration of Resources in the Digital Space”, held as part of the Annual Integration Forum. The event was attended by representatives of libraries, museums and archives. There were discussed the issues of combining digital resources, promising methods of preserving content in electronic form and other issues of concern to the professional community. The meeting was broadcasted live on the Presidential Library’s portal. Participants from Novosibirsk and Barnaul joined the event via video conferencing.

The welcoming word to the audience was addressed by acting Director General of the Presidential Library Valentin Sidorin. According to him, today the issue of not only the formation of information resources, but also the provision of access to them, is becoming paramount. He also noted that the Presidential Library is extremely interested in continuing cooperation with the regions and in ensuring that the resources of libraries and leading museums of the country are available through the digital space.

Olga Preobrazhenskaya, Chief process engineer of the Presidential Library, spoke in detail about the organization of the work of her field, highlighting the importance of technologies that ensure the continuity of creation, transfer and preservation of digital content.

Director General of the National Library and Information Center "LIBNET", Director of the Central Research Medical Library of the I. M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University Boris Loginov, noted that the work of the Presidential Library today was a methodological basis for many colleagues.

The head of the research department of the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera) of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yuri Chistov shared the experience of his institution with Internet resources: “In 1997 we organized one of the country's first museum sites. And then work on creating an electronic catalog of the museum collection began”. For today the Kunstkamera features already 18 collections online.

The moderator of the meeting, the director of information resources of the Presidential Library Elena Zhabko, noted that in the near future there is “strengthening the ethnographic component” of the Presidential Library’s collection, precisely due to the digitized materials of the Kunstkamera.

It should be noted in general, the great importance of interaction with museums. Representatives of three museums at once spoke at the event: the Kunstkamera, the Pushkin All-Russian Museum and the State Hermitage Museum.

The plenary session also covered the automation of cultural institutions, the creation of digital educational resources on the history of Russia for mobile devices, the digitization of regional periodicals, etc.

The roundtable discussion “Rossica in the Digital Environment” was held as part of the conference. Its participants discussed methodological issues of arranging the project with the relevant subject, possibilities of making manuscripts with comments available in the digital environment, building of biographical and bibliographical databases, the influence of the digital environment on the work of historians. The Russian collection in the digital environment at the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies Library was presented by Tillmann Tegeler, its Head. Alexander Mayorov, Professor, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Head of the Museology Department of St. Petersburg State University Institute of History shared his experience of searching for ancient Russian records in European archives with the attendees.

The IX Reserach Conference “Cultural Heritage: Integration of Resources in the Digital Space” is a key event of the Annual Integration Forum, which was held within the Presidential Library from October 2 to 5. It is organized by the Presidential Library, the Federal Archival Agency, the Union of Museums of Russia, the Russian Library Association.
