The history of Russian statehood – dedicated to schoolchildren: The Presidential Library launched “Gosudarika” new online project

1 November 2018

A new education project of the Presidential Library “Gosudarika” is available online. This website is dedicated to schoolchildren and teachers. Its main goal is to show children the national heritage, reflecting the theory, history and practice of Russian statehood.

The feature of the website from a variety of other education online projects is its structure. There is no ordinary division into school disciplines - Russian language, literature, history, social studies. However, almost every section of “Gosudarika” includes information that will be useful for studying any of the above disciplines. There are seven main sections: “Presidential Chronicle”, “State Symbols”, “Constitution of Russia”, “State Power”, “Russian People”, “Territory of Russia”, “Russian Language”.

Each section contains links to unique, rare materials that are stored in the Presidential Library’s electronic collections. Thus, following the link, the user gets directly to the Presidential Library’s portal and learns to use it.

In the course of the selection of materials for “Gosudarika”, the task was to single out the most important thing, to form a kind of “golden fund”. It includes works of Lomonosov, Karamzin, Kruzenstern, Semenov-Tyan-Shansky and many other great Russian scientists, writers and travelers. Also, users of the website are available some monuments of national history and culture: Russkaya Pravda, the Tale of Igor’s Campaign, the Laurentian Chronicle.

Within the framework of “Gosudarika”, the most popular type of material - video content – is provided. Fundamentally, it is also original. This is a product of the Presidential Library’s own production: popular-science films, lectures by prominent Russian scientists.

Speaking about the design of “Gosudarika”, it is important to note that here the creators approached the matter creatively: a project competition was held. The design of the website was based on the work of the winner - graduate students of the Graphic Design program of the Faculty of Arts of St. Petersburg State University Tatiana Georgieva, which has been implemented under the guidance of the candidate of art history Anna Zyryanova. Subsequently, the idea was finalized by specialists of the Presidential Library in close cooperation with its authors. Thus, “Gosudarika” was the fruit of the joint efforts of two long-standing key partners, the Presidential Library and the St. Petersburg State University.

“Gosudarika” is a portal that is constantly evolving. Its sections are periodically updated with new materials reflecting the history of Russian statehood.
