13 November 2018

On the birthday of the great Russian writer Ivan Sergeevich Turgenev at the Russian Center of Science and Culture in London, the Russian Space Acting Club Theater Studio presented the audience the educational play “Turgenev”.

Songs, romances, arias of that era were performed, letters of Ivan Sergeevich’s mother, fragments of biography and excerpts from “Month in the Village”, “Hunter’s Notes”, “Mumu”, “Torrents of Spring”, “Smoke” were read off.

“When we started Turgenev, many actors hardly knew this author and did not understand the idea, but in the process, the guys discovered new sides and depth of the writer's works, found answers to various questions. They saw that Turgenev was much closer to us than most of the famous Russian authors, since Ivan Sergeevich had spent considerable time abroad. In two hours of the performance, we touched on all the main themes of his work and, I hope, were able to convey his sincere love for Russia and the Russian people”, - said the head of the studio and the director of the performance, Dmitry Turchaninov.

The Presidential Library portal features an electronic collection “I. S. Turgenev (1818–1883)”. The collection dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of the classic Russian literature, prose writer and poet, playwright, translator, publicist, includes digital copies of books, articles from periodicals, archival documents and visual materials about the life and work of the writer.
