The Presidential Library expands its participation in the World of Knowledge Documentary Film Festival

The Presidential Library will participate in the XIII International Festival of popular science cinema "World of Knowledge", which will be held in St. Petersburg on November 16-20. For the thirteenth time, scientists, cinematographers, representatives of public organizations and just spectators will gather to discuss topical issues of the development of modern science, culture, to get familiar with traditions and new directions in popular science cinema. Every year the Presidential Library more and more actively participates in this large-scale documentary film forum.

The official selection includes 28 popular science and educational films from Russia, Belarus, France, Italy, the United States and other countries. The main platform of the “World of Knowledge” will be the oldest cinema in St. Petersburg - the Rodina cinema center. For the special program, which this year is devoted to cosmology, one of the additional sites was prepared by the Presidential Library. The multimedia exhibition of the Presidential Library “Open Space in the Electronic Collections of the Presidential Library” will be a vivid option: the memoirs of Yuri Gagarin, materials from books by Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, photo archives from the library’s collection devoted to space issues will be presented to visitors. There will be also held a presentation of the three-volume edition of Russian Cosmism as a Project (by Yu. M. Malyshev, A. G. Semenov, O. P. Semenov, V. M. Sergeev), revealing the views of Russian cosmists from M. V. Lomonosov and V. I. Vernadsky to E.V. Il'enkov.

The Presidential Library is not only a multimedia multifunctional center, it also independently produces documentary and educational films. It presented out-of-competition showing of six films devoted to different periods of our country's history, which were created in 2013–2018: the documentaries “The Chamber of Commerce”, “Capital City”, “Borderland”, “Icebreaker Krasin” and the dilogy “Russian fleet off the coast of America".

As part of the cinema club, which will be held on November 19 at 16 pm the Presidential Library will host a special screening of the M. Gorky Film Studio "The Land of People" and discussing it with the director of the film Dmitry Semibratov. This large-scale adventure research film was shot with the goal of rediscovering the Kuriles for Russia and showing the world the unique territory of the islands with their unique human and natural potential.

As part of the film festival, an agreement on cooperation between the Presidential Library and the M. Gorky Film Studio on joint educational activities in the field of promotion of scientific knowledge will be signed.

The specialists of the Presidential Library will participate in the round table on the creation of the scientific association "World of Knowledge", which will be held in the House of Scientists.
