The Presidential Library hosts Pushkin’s Memorial Day

February 8, 2019 the Presidential Library hosted “Pushkin’s Memorial Day” annual conference and webinar, which brought together specialists of the National Pushkin Museum, students of the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia and the Pushkin Leningrad State University, teachers and pupils of the senior classes of schools of St. Petersburg. Library specialists from Ulyanovsk, Simferopol, Tomsk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and other cities joined the event via video-conferencing mode.

Alexey Vorobyov, Director (for External Relations) of the Presidential Library, addressed the audience with a welcoming speech: “Today you are present at the traditional Pushkin’s Memorial Day, which we are celebrating for the fourth time this year”.

He recalled that in 2015 the Presidential Library supported the initiative of holding a contest dedicated to Pushkin’s life and work, which was presented by the Information and Methodological Center of the Primorsky District of St. Petersburg. One of the mandatory conditions for participation in the contest was that all submitted works must contain materials from the Presidential Library.

“The portal contains an extensive collection dedicated to the great poet. It includes many different sources that tell about his life and work”, - stressed Alexey Vorobyov.

Olga Mazur, Deputy Director of the Information and Methodological Center of the Primorsky District, noted that the aforementioned contest begins annually on the poet’s Memorial Day in the Presidential Library in February and ends with a ceremonial summing up in the building on Senate Square, 3 on June 6.

Irina Rosina, Head of the Media Center of the National Pushkin Museum, told about educational projects dedicated to the 220th anniversary of the poet’s birth, which will be held in various cities of our country.

Veronika Pulyaevskaya, pupil of the 8th grade at gymnasium № 116 in the Primorsky District studies different portraits of Alexander Sergeevich and made interesting conclusions about how contemporaries and artists of the later time portrayed the poet.

The main goal of “Pushkin’s Memorial Day” annual conference and webinar, which is held by the Presidential Library, is to promote the heritage of the great poet, as the theme of 2019 is “Pushkin's oeuvre in the 21st century”.

"Alexander Pushkin (1799–1837)” collection available on the Presidential Library’s portal includes digital copies of books, articles, archival documents, video films and other materials on the life and work of the poet, as well as the activities of the state in preserving the memory of him.
