The Birobidzhan Regional Center of the Presidential Library hosted an Hour of Memory “Forgotten Heroes of Volochayevka”

On February 13, 2019 the Birobidzhan Regional Center of the Presidential Library, which is open in the Sholem Aleichem Birobidzhan Regional Research Universal Library hosted an Hour of Memory, dedicated to the Battle of Volochayevka. The battle began on February 10, 1922, and lasted until February 12 — the date, which has been declared in the Jewish Autonomous Region as the Day of Remembrance of those who died during the Civil War in the Far East.

Disabled people were guests at the event. N. V. Kobylitsky, Deputy Chairman of the Regional Council of War and Labor Veterans, told about the situation in the Far East during the Civil War, the historical significance and the course of the battle.

O. V. Puzikova - Head of the Regional Center - gave a speech, which spotlighted the forgotten participants of those events.

A multimedia presentation, featuring Civil War newsreels, electronic copies of historical documents from the State Archive of the Jewish Autonomous Region, photographs of monuments and memorial buildings, etc. was held as part of the event. Participants also had a virtual tour around the site of the Battle of Volochayevka.  

The Region is in the spotlight of “Jewish Autonomous Region: Pages of History” collection, which is available on the portal. The collection includes studies, essays, photographs and other materials, which cast light on the geographical, socio-economic, socio-political and cultural aspects of the history of development of the Jewish Autonomous Region during the 1920s-1930s.
