Penza Regional Center hosted “The World Around Us” ecology lesson

20 February 2019

On February 13, as part of the School of Presidents, specialists of the Penza Regional Center of Access to the Resources of the Presidential Library held an ecology lesson “The World Around Us” designed for pupils of school No. 64.

Children learnt about the national electronic library and the books about flora and fauna. Digitized publications of the 19th century, which are available in the collections of the Presidential Library - “Children’s Museum, or the Collection of Images of Animals, Plants, Flowers, Fruits, Minerals…” (1829), “Geography: Secondary School Course: General Information” (1878) - aroused considerable interest among schoolchildren. Pupils understood that the books give a chance to trace the evolution of human impact on the environment and see how the planet has changed in the past 100 years.

Library specialists selected videos about ecology to be shown to sixth-graders. When children watched them they could unmistakably name factors which have negative effects on nature. They also came to a conclusion that it is necessary to take care of ecology.

“Penza Region: Pages of History” collection is available on the portal of the Presidential Library. The collection includes archival documents, essays, studies and statistics, which cast light on demographic, geographic, socio-economic, socio-political and other aspects of history of Penza Region from the late 18th c. – through 1930s. The current statute of Penza Region is available, too.
