International Conference “World War II: Myths and Reality” took place in Slovenia

The delegation of the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Ljubljana took part in the conference “World War II: Myths and Reality”, which was held in the World War II International Research Center in Maribor.

The conference was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation D. G. Zavgaev, Vice Mayor of Maribor G. Reichenberg, member of the Presidium of the Russian Historical Society S. P. Karpov, Vice-Rector of MGIMO University of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia for Research Ye. M. Kozhokin, President of the Russian State University for the Humanities Ye. I. Pivovar, as well as heads of museums and historical societies, prominent figures in culture, veterans of World War II, representatives of non-governmental organizations, researchers and publicists from Russia, Slovenia, Great Britain, Austria, France and other countries.

As part of the conference experts delivered reports focused on the war crimes committed by the Nazis in the occupied territory of the USSR, Yugoslavia and other European countries.

As a result, the participants adopted a resolution expressing readiness to continue working together to develop international cooperation in order to preserve the historical memory of World War II, prevent the repetition of its tragic events as well as new conflicts, and educate the younger generation as part of the efforts to promote confidence, peace and cooperation among nations.

“The Memory of the Great Victory” electronic collection is available on the portal of the Presidential Library. The collection includes official documents, photo and newsreels, wartime newspapers, propaganda publications, collections of articles, biographies, testimonies of combatants and workers of the home front, their personal documents, images of combat and labor awards, monuments and memorial complexes, essays of grandchildren and great-grandchildren of veterans about the war.
