Secrets of the image of the Russian bear revealed in the exhibition of the Sverdlovsk Regional Center of the Presidential Library
Why did the bear become the personification of Russia for the Russians and the whole world? How deep is the bear metaphor in history? Answers are available at the exhibition “The Image of the Russian Bear”, which opened in the hall of the Sverdlovsk Regional Center of the Presidential Library, running on the basis of the Belinsky Sverdlovsk Regional Universal Research Library.
For example, periodical materials reveal the role of the “bear metaphor” in presenting the cultural identity of modern Russia, including the international arena. A separate section of the exhibition is devoted to the image of a bear in Russian folklore, visual and decorative arts: the exhibition features samples of book graphics by Yury Vasnetsov, where the main character is a bear, to see the image of clubfoot in folk crafts and traditional toys.
The exposition is accompanied by multimedia collections from the Presidential Library: thanks to special QR codes, visitors of the exhibition got familiar with digital copies of documents and visual materials that can be studied in the electronic reading room.
On the website of the Presidential Library, the region is represented by “Sverdlovsk Region: Pages of History” collection. It contains electronic copies of studies, essays and photographs of the XIX - early XX century. The materials introduce the geographical, demographic, socio-economic and socio-political aspects of the history of the region.
