The bust of the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin opened in Bucharest

The grand opening of the bronze bust of the first cosmonaut in the world, Yuri Gagarin, took place in King Mihai I of Romania (Herastreu) Bucharest Park. The event was attended by the staff of the Russian Embassy in Romania and the Russian Center of Science and Culture, the Romanian cosmonaut Dumitru Prunariu, representatives of city authorities and local residents.

The work of sculptor Alexei Leonov is a gift to the Romanian capital from the international charitable foundation "Dialogue of Cultures – a Single World". President of the organization Ruslan Bayramov noted that “the opening of the bust of Yuri Gagarin in Bucharest will be a new impetus to the strengthening of friendship, cultural and educational ties between the peoples of our countries”.

The Presidential Library’s portal provides access to electronic collection of documents “Outer Space”, which includes newsreel fragments, periodicals, and books reflecting various milestones in the development of Russian cosmonautics.
