Photo exhibition of works by frontline artists of the Great Patriotic War opened in Chisinau

9 May 2019

May 6, 2019 the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Chisinau hosted the opening of the photo exhibition “Drawings by Frontline Artists of the Great Patriotic War” from the collections of the State Historical Museum of the Russian Federation.

The exhibition is devoted to a bright artistic phenomenon - the front drawing as a unique pictorial chronicle of the war. Along with many other areas of artistic creativity, the frontline drawing reflects the state of the public consciousness of the Soviet people in the years of terrible ordeals, the triumph of the spirit and strength of the people who overcame the oppression of the fascist invaders.

Military artists worked directly on the front line, in partisan detachments, in hospitals, trying to capture everything they saw. The exhibition presents a variety of their works: portraits of soldiers and officers, doctors and nurses, partisans, residents of liberated villages and villages; frontline life, destroyed cities and monuments of architecture, views of Moscow, a difficult forty-one year, and a victorious forty-fifth of defeated Berlin.

Young people and people of the older generation who attended the opening of the exhibition paid tribute to the memory of artists who went through difficult roads of war. Among the guests was the chairperson of the Russian community of the Republic of Moldova, Lyudmila Laschenova. She noted that today it was extremely important to hold such events, which carry the documentary truth about the events of the Great Patriotic War, and also thanked the representatives of the RCSC for the opportunity to get familiar with the works of frontline artists.

Since 2010, the Presidential Library has been creating an electronic collection dedicated to the victory in the Great Patriotic War: “Memory of the Great Victory”. It includes official documents, photographs and newsreels, wartime newspapers, books, propaganda publications, collections of articles, biographies, testimonies of combatants and rear workers, their personal documents, images of military and labor awards, monuments and memorial complexes.
