XII Scientific and Practical Readings of the memory of Saints Equal to the Apostles Methodius and Cyril in Tashkent

On May 25, 2019, the XII Scientific and Practical Readings marking the Day of Slavic Literature and Culture and honoring the memory of Saints Equal to the Apostles Methodius and Cyril were held n the conference hall of the Spiritual and Administrative Center of the Tashkent and Uzbekistan Diocese of the Central Asian Metropolitan District.

The scientific and practical readings were attended by teachers and students of the Tashkent Theological Seminary, students of the Russian Center of Science and Culture, representatives of public organizations and the media.

The head of the Central Asian metropolitan district, the metropolitan of Tashkent and Uzbekistan, the permanent member of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, Vladyka Vikenty made a welcoming speech.

A presentation on the history of creation and significance in the history of Russian culture of the Ostromir Gospels was made by the head of the Historical Club of the RCSC Vasily Kostetsky. Teachers of the Tashkent Theological Seminary, Sergei Statsenko, Yuri Flygin, Alexander Kolotovkin, made presentations on the problems and peculiarities of the ministry of the Orthodox Church in Uzbekistan and a tolerant attitude to Orthodoxy in the country.

Students of the Tashkent Theological Seminary supplemented the reports on the peculiarities of the first missions of the Equal-to-Apostles brothers Methodius and Cyril and on the influence of television and the Internet on the consciousness of the modern man.

The Presidential Library’s portal features “Cyril and Methodius - Slavic Educators” collection. Cyril and Methodius - the creators of the Church Slavonic language, Orthodox preachers, revered as equal saints - played a crucial role in the development of Slavic literature and culture. The presented studies, essays, speeches tell about their life and work. The collection also includes a photograph depicting the monument to Cyril and Methodius in Kiev and the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation on the celebration of the Day of Slavic Literature and Culture.
