The Russian Center of Science and Culture in Vienna staged Dead Souls

June 20, 2019 the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Vienna staged Dead Souls based on Nikolai Gogol’s poem and the performances of the director and creator of the unique "Kolyada-Theater" in Yekaterinburg Nikolai Kolyada.

The performance of the theatrical group of the Institute of Slavic Studies at the University of Salzburg was held in memory of the director, a great friend of the RCSC Marina Chernorubashkina, who did not have time to finish this production.

Austrian students of the Institute of Slavic Studies presented the scene of the appearance of Chichikov in the house of the landowner Korobochka. The artistry of the performers, the talent of reincarnation, the musical design of the play, the sharpness of the dialogues that the interlocutors lead in raised tones without hearing each other — all this takes the viewer to the county town N, created by Nikolai Gogol in the nineteenth century, but whose manners and characters have not changed nowadays.

The audience was impressed by the play of actors and the spectacular opening of the topic. An open final allows everyone to think and answer the question of how to preserve human dignity in any circumstances.

The Presidential Library’s portal features “Nikolai Gogol (1809-1852)” collection. It, dedicated to the 210th anniversary of the birth of the classic Russian literature, prose writer, playwright, Orthodox thinker and publicist N. V. Gogol, includes digital copies of books, articles from periodicals, archive documents and visual materials containing information about life and work the writer, the texts of his works.

The subsection “Illustrations to Nikolai Gogol’s Works” contains works by one of the greatest Russian illustrators P. M. Boklevsky, who created the “Album of Gogol Types”.

The subsection “Works of Nikolai Gogol in Cinema and Theater” features famous Russian actors in the roles of Gogol’s characters.
