Lesson "The Day when the War Broke Out" held in Birobidzhan

June 21, 2019, on the eve of the memorial date - Day of Memory and Sorrow, the Birobidzhan Regional Center of Access to the Resources of the Presidential Library of the Sholem Aleichem Birobidzhan Regional Research Universal Library, holds the lesson of courage “The Day when the War Broke Out”.

The guys from the summer camp of lyceum № 23, representatives of the regional council of war and labor veterans were invited to the event. The veteran of the Great Patriotic War, Vladimir Semenovich Kompaniets, became the honored guest of the meeting.

The lesson began with a demonstration of cadres of documentary chronicles, where the voice of the legendary Yuri Levitan reported on the treacherous attack of fascist Germany on the Soviet Union.

Chairman of the Regional Council of Veterans G. E. Esterin stressed that, regardless of age, everyone should remember and not forget the tragedy of World War II.

His deputy, N. V. Kobylitsky, told the children about what was happening on that fateful day, June 22, 1941, what unprecedented blow from fascist Germany  the country had to endure. Those present honored the memory of the dead with a minute of silence.

Girls and boys listened with great interest to the veteran of the Great Patriotic War, V. S. Kompaniets. Vladimir Semenovich shared memories of the war years, spoke about the most important battles of the war.

From the story of the head of the regional center, O. V. Puzikova, the children learned about the combat and labor feats of the inhabitants of the Jewish Autonomous Region, about their contribution to the war defence fund. Particular attention was paid to the young countrymen, who, along with adults, worked on collective farm fields, for machine tools in factories and plants. In those difficult years for the country, schoolchildren participated in the collection of scrap metal, waste paper, money to fund the country's defense and the construction of military equipment, send parcels to the front, took patronage over the families of front-line soldiers, the elderly andsick people.

The Presidential Library's portal features the collection “Jewish Autonomous Region: Pages of History”. It includes studies, essays, photographs and other materials that characterize the geographical, socio-economic, socio-political and cultural aspects of the history of the development of Jewish Autonomous Region in 1920s and 30s.
