The Presidential Library hosted the meeting of the 1st International Municipal BRICS Forum

The Presidential Library, which has been carrying out the perspective plans for development of the institution, hosted the meeting of the International Municipal BRICS Forum that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and the Republic of South Africa.

“The Presidential Library is a unique place, because it holds digital copies of all possible publications in print. It is on books as the source of knowledge that we would like to focus our attention in the first part of the meeting”, said Denis Ryutin, Representative of the Organizing Committee and host of the forum.

“We would like to unite digital libraries across the BRICS countries”, said Mikhail Cherepanov, Head of the Project of International Municipal BRICS Cooperation. He noted that by sharing objective archival records they could prevent any attempts to falsify historical facts.

Other meeting participants approved the idea of ​​opening digital interactive libraries in the BRICS countries. They also noted symbolic significance of the venue for the forum at Senate Square, 3, which, on the one hand, was a place, where the history was made, and on the other hand, became a birthplace of the modern multimedia centre, which gives an opportunity to disseminate knowledge across the world.

The 1st International Municipal BRICS Forum was held in St. Petersburg by the Mega Forum Autonomous Non-Profit Organization with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. The main theme of the event was the concept of practical proposals at the BRICS regional level “From Words to Deeds”. It covered a wide range of issues: economy and business, scientific and technological progress, municipal digitization, preservation of traditions and cultural export. This is not the first time that the Presidential Library has become a venue for such events.
