Workshop dedicated to the Russian language as the cultural code of the nation held in Beirut

The head of the Russian language department and methods of teaching the philological faculty of RUDN University, doctor of philological sciences, professor Viktor Shaklein held a master class “Language as a means of communication. Language as the cultural code of a nation” on December 2, 2019 at the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Beirut.

The event, which is especially valuable for the professional community of philologists-Russian scholars, gathered about 30 Russian language teachers from Beit Mary, Beirut, Tire, Saida, Baaklin and other cities - members of the Lebanese organization of teachers of Russian language and literature, established in 2019 under support of the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office.

The workshop was also attended by students of Russian language courses at the center.

The meeting participants were welcomed by the head of the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office Vadim Zaichikov, who thanked V. Shaklein for the unique opportunity to listen to his lecture, including as a member of the Presidential Council on Russian Language, noted the relevance of the workshop topic and emphasized the special role of Russian as a dominant cultural code of a single Russian civil nation. In his speech, V. Zaichikov spoke about the ever-growing interest of Lebanese people in studying the Russian language and getting to know Russian culture, noting at the same time the contribution of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia and its systematic work in Lebanon to promote the Russian language and education in Russia.

The event was held as part of the Interactive Exhibition: Russian Language project. Reading, Listening, Watching” organized by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the Russian Humanitarian Mission, the Center for Film Festivals and International Programs, the Leo Tolstoy State Museum and the Mosfilm film concern.

The next campaign of the project at the RCSC in Beirut will be a master class in animation for the children of compatriots, which will be held on December 10.

The Presidential Library’s electronic collections feature a special collection “Russian Language”, which includes manuscripts and publications of monuments of Russian writing, archival affairs, scientific works (including theses and abstracts of dissertations), dictionaries and reference books, study guides of various types and levels. Only part of the materials from the electronic storage fund is free on the Presidential Library’s portal. The library’s information resources are available at the remote access centers in different countries of the world. At the moment, the possibility of opening such a center on the basis of the RCSC in Beirut is being considered.
