Marking the 75th anniversary of the Victory: A philatelic exhibition to open in Brest
January 22, 2020, a philatelist exhibition marking the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War was open at the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Brest. The grand opening ceremony was a part of the All-Russian Philatelic Competition.
The purposes of this action were: to study the history of the World War II with the help of philatelic materials, to preserve the memory of the feat of the Soviet people, to promote the patriotic education of the young generation, and also strengthen interest in collecting postage stamps, envelopes, postcards.
This project set the stage for the future numerous events marking the 75th anniversary of the Victory. The exhibition was organized with the participation of the Brest branch of “Belpochta”, the Brest branch of the Belarusian Union of Philatelists with the assistance of the Russian Post and the Union of Russian Philatelists. Its stands feature genuine samples of front-line and rear correspondence, as well as carefully selected thematic copies of stamps, envelopes, postcards, pocket calendars sent by collectors from Izhevsk, Perm, Ufa, Kostroma, Moscow, Brest, and other cities. At the final stage of the project the exhibition will be showcased in Moscow on the eve of Victory Day in May 2020.
Organizers of the exhibition addressed the students, cadets, and guests of the center with a welcoming speech. The speakers were: the head of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Brest Y. E. Semenchenko, the chairman of the Brest branch of the Union of Philatelists of Belarus V. N. Kopot, the deputy director of the Brest branch of “Belpochta” I. V. Kondratyuk, and the World War II veteran K. M. Kruglikov.
Belarusian participants of the project received the memorable gifts and diplomas, Russian participants will be awarded by the gifts from Brest.
On the portal of the Presidential Library, everyone can get access to the materials of the “Memory of the Great Victory” collection. It includes official documents, photos, and newsreels, wartime newspapers, books, propaganda publications, collections of articles, biographies, testimonies of participants in military battles and rear workers, their documents and much more.
There is only part of the materials from the Presidential Library’s electronic storage on the Internet portal in the public domain. It is possible to get ultimate access to fully the library’s information resources at the Centers of Remote Access that work in different countries of the world. Since 2015, one such Center has been opened on the basis of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Brest.
