“Theater as a Testament of the Age”: virtual presentation of an inter-regional information resource

The Gorky Volgograd Regional Universal Scientific Library presents a new information resource that has become a kind of final stage of the large interregional historical and cultural project “Theater as a Testament of the Age”, initiated by the Volgograd Library in partnership with the Presidential Library and libraries of Kemerovo, Tver, Tambov, Penza, Sakhalin and Amur Regions, Republic of Crimea and the Republic of Komi.

The resource contains information about the main milestones of the formation of the domestic theater and provides a unique opportunity to explore rare theatrical publications. These are more than 110 books and more than 120 periodicals from the collections of the Gorky Volgograd Regional Universal Scientific Library, as well as partner libraries.

Thanks to the new resource, one can study the works of theater experts published in the early and first half of the 20th century, read the memories of prominent personalities of the domestic theater - such as Alexander Volkov, Mikhail Schepkin, Fedor Korsh, Fedor Chaliapin, Ekaterina Semenova, Vasily Kachalov and many others.

The processing of the information array, the preparation of texts and the technical development of the website were carried out by the staff of the electronic resources creation department of the Gorky Volgograd Regional Universal Scientific Library.

The Presidential Library’s portal features Volgograd Region: Pages of History collection. It includes studies, essays, memoirs, archival documents, official statistical collections and reviews, as well as journals of district zemstvo collections devoted to the history, archeology, economics, demography, and military-administrative development of the territories of the XIII – XX centuries that are now part of Volgograd Region (former Tsaritsyn and Kamyshin districts of Saratov province).
