The Presidential Library’s cinema club meeting to provide discussion of the film "Following the Holy Places of the Kola North"

The regular online meeting of the Presidential Library’s cinema club, which will be dedicated to the holy pilgrimage sites of the Kola North, will be held on August 28, 2020, at 15:00. The program includes a screening of a documentary "Following the Holy Places of the Kola North" and a presentation of the regional encyclopedia "Pechenga".

The film "Following the Holy Places of the Kola North" was made by the famous TV journalist Svetlana Sazonova, who spoke with talent about the churches of the Murmansk and Monchegorsk dioceses, the clergy of which reveal the history of the creation of churches. The film is based on materials related to the pilgrimage routes of the Kola North, which were developed by the pilgrimage service: "Trifonov Pechenga Monastery", "Khibinogorsk Women's Monastery", "Shrines of the Tersk Coast", "Orthodox Murmansk", "Church of Boris and Gleb", "In Memory of the Kursk". The film was attended by the Archbishop of Murmansk and Monchegorsk Simon and the priests of the diocese, director of the Museum of History and Local Lore of Pechenga Region in the village of Nikel Veronica Matsak, poet, member of the Union of Writers of Russia Nikolai Kolychev.

The unique landscapes of northern nature, high poetry, spiritual chants create an indelible holistic idea of ​​the Kola land, national culture, value system, faith and world outlook of people living in the North.

The film was made marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of Murmansk Region and the 475th anniversary of the founding of the Trifonov Pechenga monastery with the blessing of Archbishop Simon of Murmansk and Monchegorsk at the Murman State TV and Radio Broadcasting Company.

The presentation of an unusual regional publication will take place after watching and discussing the film. The book "Pechenga" is an experience of creating a regional encyclopedia of historical and local lore content, the purpose of which is to present to the reader the historical fate of Pechenga in its diversity and integrity, to show the close connection of all aspects of the life of the region and its nature with the language of the local population and regional toponymy.

The history of Pechenga, being a part of Russian history, is inextricably linked with it. Pechenga has long and firmly entered the history of the Kola North, being an outpost on its northwestern borders. The eventful history of Pechenga is recorded in many documents that have come down to our time, research materials, photo archives, memoirs of participants in the events of different years.

The book is based on the richest in content sources stored not only in the archives and libraries of our country, but also in foreign archival and museum funds in Finland and Norway. Many of the rarities discovered by researchers have been introduced into scientific circulation for the first time. The book will be presented by the author - Veronika Matsak, director of the Museum of History and Local Lore of Pechenga Region in the village of Nikel.

After watching and discussing the film, as well as the presentation of the book "Pechenga", a three-minute video clip "Rybachiy" ("Goodbye, rocky mountains") will be shown.

The cinema club meeting will be broadcasted on the Presidential Library's portal in the Live broadcasts section in accordance with the program of live broadcasts of events, as well as on the cinema club's page on the VKontakte social network and on the library's YouTube channel.
