Virtual exhibition "Language - the fate of the people" marking the Day of the Bashkir language

The regional center of the Presidential Library in the Republic of Bashkortostan at the Akhmet-Zaki Validi National of the Republic of Bashkortostan provides a virtual exhibition "Language - the fate of the people", marking the Day of the Bashkir language.

December 14 is the birthday of the great Bashkir poet and educator Miftakhetdin Akmulla. In order to preserve, support and develop the Bashkir language, by the decree of the Head of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Radiy Khabirov, in 2019 this date was officially established as the Day of the Bashkir language.

There are over 1.4 million native speakers of the Bashkir language in the world, which is widespread in Bashkortostan, Chelyabinsk, Orenburg, Tyumen, Sverdlovsk, Kurgan, Samara, Saratov Regions, Perm Krai, Tatarstan and other regions.

It is known that the graphic basis of the Bashkir language has undergone changes and has gone through several stages of writing. The very first was runic writing, then - Arabic graphics, Latin and Cyrillic.

The virtual exhibition allows everyone to follow the development of the language, get background information about language dialects, learn about the collection, which includes more than 40 publications on the study of the Bashkir language of different years (since 1911) from the collections of the Akhmet-Zaki Validi National Library of the Republic of Bashkortostan. These are alphabets for adults and children, teaching aids, dictionaries, reading books, teaching aids and self-instruction manuals.

The Presidential Library’s portal features various materials telling about the history of the Bashkir people and their national language. For example, a collection of Bashkir folk tales.

A separate collection is also dedicated to the Republic of Bashkortostan on the Presidential Library’s portal. It includes archival documents, essays, statistical, cartographic, photo and audio materials, spotlighting the socio-economic, socio-political and cultural development of the republic in the period of the XVIII-XXI centuries.
