The project "Heroes of the Trans-Ural Land" launched in Kurgan

The Kurgan Regional Center of the Presidential Library based on the Yugov Kurgan Regional Universal Scientific Library launched the online project "Heroes of the Trans-Ural Land".

The project introduces the exploits of the inhabitants of the Trans-Urals during the Great Patriotic War. Of the 200 thousand Trans-Urals who went to the front, 120 thousand died, 75 thousand people were awarded with military awards and more than 100 people were awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

The first hero of the project was Lieutenant Colonel General Mikhail Stepanovich Shumilov, his talent as a commander was clearly manifested during the final phase of the Battle of Stalingrad.

The "Heroes of the Trans-Ural Land" are available on the official page of the Kurgan Regional Center in the social network "VKontakte" and on the website "Memory of the Trans-Urals". Materials about the Battle of Stalingrad are presented on the Presidential Library's portal as part of the large-scale electronic collection Memory of the Great Victory.

The Presidential Library’s portal features the collection Kurgan Region: Pages of History which comprises of research, statistical essays, archival documents, cartographic data and photographic materials of the 19th - early 21st centuries that spotlight the administrative, socio-economic, geographical position of the Kurgan and Shadrin districts, which territory is the basis of the modern land.
