Orthodox Book Day held at the Birobidzhan Regional Center of the Presidential Library

Birobidzhan Regional Center of the Presidential Library based on the Sholem Aleichem Birobidzhan Regional Universal Scientific Library together with the Birobidzhan Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church held a number of events dedicated to the celebration of the Orthodox Book Day.

Specialists of the regional center of the Presidential Library presented the participants with the handwritten book The Ostromir Gospel from the collections of the national electronic repository. Examining the perfect calligraphy and decoration of this and other manuscripts the children became convinced of the high level of book business, the extraordinary skill of the book writers and designers of those times.

The Presidential Library’s portal features the collections Orthodox Russia. Monasteries and Icons and History of the Russian Orthodox Church. They include materials from the 19th - early 20th centuries, describing the history of individual Orthodox monasteries located on the territory of Russia, especially revered icons, as well as sources telling about the birth and formation of the Russian Orthodox Church - fundamental works belonging to the pen of significant church leaders and church historians , and other.
