The Presidential Library hosted events devoted to the Resistance Movement International Day
On April 9, 2021, on the eve of the Resistance Movement International Day, the Presidential Library hosted events organized jointly with the Alexander Pechersky Memorial Foundation.
A multimedia exhibition, which marked the role of Soviet prisoners of war in the Resistance movement in Europe, was opened at the building on Senate Square, 3. The exposition provided an interactive map showing the scale of the Resistance movement in Europe. Documents and photographs spotlighted the most significant resistance operations, which showed unprecedented fortitude and courage of concentration camp prisoners.
On the same day the Presidential Library held a cinema club meeting. It included a screening of a film from the "The Unconquered" series, created by the Alexander Pechersky Memorial Foundation for the "Zvezda" TV Channel. The film was presented by its inspirer and screenwriter Ilya Vasiliev.
The film tells the story of Alexander Pechersky's feat, the leader of the uprising in the Sobibor Nazi Extermination Camp in Poland. According to Pechersky's plan, the prisoners should eliminate the fascist wardens and capture the weapons in the camp warehouse. Only one part of the plan was successful - the rebels managed to kill 12 SS men, but they failed to capture the armoury. The guards opened fire on the prisoners, and they had to escape from the camp through the minefields.
The event was broadcasted live on the Presidential Library's portal in the Live broadcasts section, in the Presidential Library's cinema club group on the VKontakte social network and on the institution's YouTube channel.
