22 April 2021

April 22, 2021 the Presidential Library hosted a multimedia lesson "Petersburg Hospitality: Tradition and the Present Time". This was the second lesson in the series of "The Origins of St. Petersburg Hospitality: Events, People, Places" lessons, organized by the Presidential Library in cooperation with the St. Petersburg State University of Economics.

As part of the lesson, Anna Skobeltsyna, Associate Professor of the Department of Hotel and Restaurant Business at St. Petersburg State University of Economics, told students of St. Petersburg schools how the history of hospitality began in the city on the Neva: where they could stay, what were the first hotels, conditions and rules of living there. The participants of the event learned how the world famous AstoriaYevropeyskaya and Oktyabrskaya hotels appeared in the city, how they run today and by whom they are managed.

Anna Skobeltsyna focused on hotel chains and global hotel brands. In addition, she talked about the hotelier's profession: why it is interesting and why it is still in demand.

The materials from the Presidential Library’s collections, revealing the history of St. Petersburg hospitality: pre-revolutionary guidebooks, postcards and photographs were provided at the lesson. Schoolchildren discussed the information received and were also  able to check how much they have mastered the material studied by answering Anna Skobeltsyna's questions.

The multimedia lesson was broadcasted live on the Presidential Library's portal in the Live broadcasts section, in the Presidential Library's cinema club group on the VKontakte social network and on the institution's YouTube channel.

The cycle of multimedia lessons "The Origins of St. Petersburg Hospitality: Events, People, Places" was launched on March 18, 2021 with a lesson on the history of the first industrial exhibition in Russia, which took place in St. Petersburg in 1829.
