The Presidential Library hosted a chess tournament in memory of Igor Blekhtsin
The Presidential Library hosted a tournament in memory of Igor Blekhtsin, professor of the St. Petersburg State Economic University and international chess master.
The contest was attended by grandmasters - graduates of St. Petersburg State University of Economics. The victory with 6.5 points out of 9 possible was won by the two-time world champion among youths, a graduate of the Department of National Economy Planning, International Grandmaster Ildar Khairullin. The second place with 6 points was taken by the bronze medalist of the European Championship, grandmaster Evgeny Romanov. The third place was taken by the European champion in the Russian national team, a graduate of the Department of National Economy Planning Maxim Matlakov.
Presentation of a new edition of Igor Blekhtsin's book "About chess and not only about them", supplemented by memories of the author, was held before the tournament launch. Welcoming remarks were made by Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Board of Gazprom Company, and Pavel Tereshchenko, Acting Director General of the Presidential Library. The first symbolic move of the tournament was made by Georgy Fokin, Chairman of the Board of the St. Petersburg Sports Federation of Chess, Director General of Gazprom Transgaz St. Petersburg.
The event has been organized by the St. Petersburg Chess Sports Federation, the St. Petersburg State University of Economics and the Presidential Library.
