27 April 2021

April 27, 2021 Altai Territory based on the Chevalkov National Library hosted the Regional Center of the Presidential Library. The event took place within the framework of the Interregional Scientific and Practical Conference "Book, Reading, Library in the Cultural Life of the Region".

Successful cooperation between the Presidential Library and the Chevalkov National Library began in 2015 when materials for an electronic exhibition dedicated to UNESCO World Heritage sites in the Russian Federation were sent to the Presidential Library from Altai Territory.

In May 2016 the Chevalkov National Library opened a center of remote access to the resources of the Presidential Library and in December of the same year an agreement on cooperation between the Government of Altai Territory and the first national electronic library was signed.

In 2020 the second in a row Altai Territory’s remote electronic reading room of the Presidential Library was opened at the Ust-Koksinsky public intersettlement library and an additional agreement on the creation of the Chevalkov National Library of the Regional center of  access to Information resources of the Presidential Library was opened.

The opening of the regional center of the Presidential Library will serve as a powerful impetus for the development of the information society and will contribute to the formation of a single historical and cultural space and will also expand the network of remote access centers. Residents of the region will receive not only access to the unique collection of the Presidential Library, but also the opportunity to participate in conferences, webinars, video lectures and other events.

It should be noted that during the acquisition of the Presidential Library’s collections, special attention is paid to the development of regional collections, one of which is dedicated to the history of Altai Territory. It includes official documents, studies, archival, statistical, visual and audiovisual materials of various years, spotlighting the geographical position, administrative, socio-economic and cultural state of the territories that are now part of Altai Territory.

Cooperation with the regions is one of priority areas of the Presidential Library's activity. To date, more than 1,200 centers of remote access to library resources have been opened in all 85 constituent entities of the Russian Federation. There are 43 remote access centers of the Presidential Library in 30 countries abroad.
