Quiz "The ABC is not boredom, but a step to science" for young Penza readers

Specialists of the Penza regional center of access to the resources of the Presidential Library held a quiz "The ABC is not boredom, but a step to science" for 4th grade students of school No. 74.

The pupils watched a video about the creators of the Slavic alphabet - the holy enlighteners Cyril and Methodius, equal to the apostles, learned about the process of creating a manuscript book and the technology of making publications at the dawn of the era of printing.

Then the schoolchildren were divided into two groups - "Izhitsa" and "Vedi".

"Izhitsa" studied the digitized sources of the Presidential Library’s collections. In the process of working with book treasures, children guessed riddles from Leo Tolstoy's "ABC", read poems by Samuil Marshak in the book "About everything in the world" and learned about the amazing fairy-tale world in "ABC in Pictures" by Alexander Benois.

Meanwhile, "Vedi" guessed all the parts of the book, encrypted in the task "String of Words". This gave them the opportunity to work with the letters of the first Slavic alphabet and unravel a phrase written in a verb.

During the "Living Bloomer" exercise, the guys depicted letters as in the "Primer" by Karion Istomin.

At the end of the game, the children received all the parts of the key to the "secret room" and were able to hold in their hands a facsimile edition of Ivan Fedorov's "ABC" from the collections of the Lermontov Penza Regional Library.

The collection Penza Region: Pages of History is available on the Presidential Library’s portal. It includes archival documents, essays, studies and statistical materials covering the demographic, geographical, socio-economic, socio-political and other aspects of the history of Penza Region at the end of the 18th - first third of the 20th century.
