Marking Russia Day employees of the Regional Center of Access to the Resources of the Presidential Library based on the Lermontov Penza Regional Library prepared for the younger grades of the summer camp of school № 36 a cognitive lesson "School of our ancestors".

The children learned a lot about the history of the first schools. For example, that teachers were able to punish pupils for any offense. The strict form of punishment was rods, which were so common that in 1637 they were depicted on the cover of an ABC book printed by Vasily Burtsov. Particular attention was paid to the illustrated primer of Karion Istomin, compiled by the hieromonk of the Moscow Chudov Monastery and which became the best textbook of its time; this unique edition is available on the Presidential Library’s portal. Also, young visitors to the Regional Center of Access to the Presidential Library's resources plunged into the entertaining world of geography, putting together a map of the Penza province from puzzles, and then comparing the modern borders of their native land with a map of the province of the late 19th century.

The collection Penza Region: Pages of History is available on the Presidential Library’s portal. It includes archival documents, essays, studies and statistical materials that spotlight the demographic, geographical, socio-economic, socio-political and other aspects of the history of Penza Region at the end of the 18th - first third of the 20th century.
