The Presidential Library shared its experience in creating digital collections in Kyrgyz Republic

The Presidential Library took part in the II International Scientific and Practical Conference "Book and Reading in the Digital Age", which was held from June 20-23, 2021 in Kyrgyz Republic. The main goal of the event is to identify the best ideas and best practices in the field of reading promotion with a view to their subsequent dissemination.

The conference was attended by the heads of the largest libraries, publishing houses, book trade enterprises, authorities and institutions in the field of science and education, art and culture, communication and information, public organizations and business. The event brought together specialists from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine.

The conference focused on the problems and prospects of the policies and activities carried out in each country to support and develop reading; the role of books and reading in solving socially significant problems; ways and means of increasing the social effectiveness of programs and projects to promote reading; development of interstate cooperation in the field of promoting reading and media and information literacy.

Yulia Selivanova, Head of the Department of Linguistic and Software and Technological Support of the Presidential Library, made a video presentation "Digital Collections as a Guide to Reading". She noted that the first electronic national library of Russia widely uses the practice of disclosing the contents of the library collections through the creation of digital collections on various topics, persons, historical events - in total, over 300 digital collections are available on the portal today. Yulia Selivanova highlighted the experience accumulated by the Presidential Library in preparing collections that contribute to the promotion of the institution's collections and the development of users' interest in reading.

The organizers of the conference are the Interregional Center for Library Cooperation, the Russian Committee of the UNESCO Information for All Program and the A. Osmonov National Library of Kyrgyz Republic with the support of the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS Member States and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Kyrgyz Republic.
