XII Scientific and Practical Conference "Cultural Heritage: Integration of Resources in the Digital Environment"

Starting October 12-15, 2021, the XII Scientific and Practical Conference "Cultural Heritage: Integration of Resources in the Digital Environment" was held at the Don State Public Library in Rostov-on-Don and the Presidential Library in St. Petersburg as part of the Annual Integration Forum. The event was organized by the Presidential Library, the Federal Archival Agency, the Union of Russian Museums, the Russian Library Association, the Ministry of Culture of Rostov Region and the Don State Public Library.

The welcoming speech of the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Olga Yarilova to organizers, participants and guests of the conference says: “The cultural sector is especially sensitive to digital technology. Today, not only communication channels with the audience are changing, but also the cultural projects themselves. The use of information technology in culture allows creating digital products that society needs involving even more people in the cultural agenda".

The conference events, most parts of which are broadcast live, focus on issues of digital transformation of libraries, problems of integrating resources of libraries, archives and museums in the framework of joint projects, creating the basis for interaction between libraries and museums, issues of creating model libraries.

October 12, 2021 an offsite meeting of the heads of regional centers of access to the resources of the Presidential Library was held in Rostov-on-Don. On October 13 Rostov-on-Don hosted plenary and sectional sessions of the XII Scientific and Practical Conference "Cultural Heritage: Integration of Resources in the Digital Environment", a panel discussion "Modern Models of Presenting Bibliographic Information" as well as a round tables on the problems of creating model libraries.

Taganrog, on October 14, 2021, inaugurated a remote electronic reading room of the Presidential Library at the A. P. Chekhov Taganrog Institute, a branch of the Rostov State Economic University.

The Presidential Library in St. Petersburg on October 13 held a round table "The peasant issue in Russia and Europe in the 19th century: modern methods of study in the digital environment". The event focused on the following topics: topical issues in modern research; the situation of peasants in Russia and Europe in the 19th century; archival collections spotlighting the state of the peasant problem; features of the abolition of serfdom in the territory of the Russian Empire; the role of emancipation reform in the social and economic development of Russia; the formation of collections on the peasant issue in the digital environment.

October 14, 2021 the Presidential Library held a round table "Photographic heritage - a digital cast of the history of the state". The event focused on the history of photography in Russia; topical issues of preservation of photographic heritage; problems and features of the restoration of photographs; photographic documents as a source on the history of Russian statehood; collections of photographs in libraries, museums, archives; personal and family photographic archives; possibilities and forms of presentation of photo documents: albums, exhibitions, digital collections, etc.

Representatives of libraries, archives, museums, educational and scientific institutions, public associations and organizations of the federal and regional levels attended the conference, which was held in a face-to-face and distance format using videoconferencing mode.

Agenda

The Presidential Library’s new collection Don Cossacks available on the institution's portal was presented at the forum. The collection is dedicated to the history of the Russian Cossacks. It features scientific studies, reference publications, popular historical essays of the 19th - early 20th centuries, editions of statutes and regulations, archival materials, maps, plans and drawings that spotlight the culture of the Cossacks, the history of the organization of the Cossack troops and the Cossack service, including the history of the participation of the Don Cossacks in World War I, the 1917 Revolution and the Civil War in Russia, as well as the revival of the traditions of the southern Cossacks in the Russian Federation. The collection includes materials provided by libraries (Russian State Library, National Library of Russia, State Public Historical Library, Don State Public Library, Scientific Library of the State Archives of the Russian Federation, Omsk State Regional Scientific Library, Volgograd Regional Universal Scientific Library), archives (Russian State Historical Archives, State Archives of the Russian Federation, State Archives of Rostov Region, State Archives of Tyumen Region), museums and scientific societies (Military-Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineering Troops and Signal Corps of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, Russian Geographical Society).
