26 November 2021

November 26, 2021 exhibition projects of the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library of the Administrative Department of the President of the Russian Federation were presented in Moscow as part of the VII Interdepartmental Conference "The System of Interdepartmental Information Interaction in Solving Problems in the Field of Defence of the Russian Federation".

The conference was held in full-time and correspondence format by videoconference. More than 600 participants on behalf of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, research organizations, federal executive authorities, organizations and higher educational institutions of the Russian Federation, industrial and business enterprises attended the event.

Executive Board of the Ministry of Defence and participants of conference learned about two exhibition projects of the Presidential Library.

One of them - the historical and documentary exhibition "On the eve of the Second World War" - tells about the events that led to a large-scale world conflict. Copies of archival documents allow us to trace the growing aggression of the Third Reich, to understand the reasons for the failure of the creation of a broad anti-Hitler coalition with the participation of the USSR, as well as the logic of the actions of the Soviet leadership in the current international situation.

The exposition materials are included in the unique complex of digitized archival documents, film and photographic materials World War II in archival documents, created in accordance with clause 4 "k" of the List of instructions for the implementation of the President's Address to the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation dated January 15, 2020 No. Pr-113 and posted on the portal of the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library of the Administrative Department of the President of the Russian Federation.

The project is being implemented by the Federal Archival Agency with the participation of the archival services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation, as well as the Presidential Library.

The complex already contains electronic copies of archival documents covering the period from the beginning of 1938 to June 22, 1941. The work is underway to include documents on the further course and results of World War II.

Another project that was presented at the VII Interdepartmental Scientific and Practical Conference in Moscow - the multimedia exhibition The Great Patriotic War, Which Determined the Outcome of World War II - was provided by the specialists of the Presidential Library marking the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The chronological framework of the project, the period from 1931 to 1945, makes it possible to draw up a clear and objective picture of the origin, development and collapse of the world's anti-humanist regimes (fascism, Nazism and militarism). The documents presented in a complex help to understand the causes, course and consequences of the Great Patriotic War in the context of World War II, of which it was an integral part and the main event. A distinctive feature of the project's structure is that diplomatic and military events are presented not as isolated elements, but as parts of a single historical process.

The multimedia project The Great Patriotic War that Determined the Outcome of World War II contains several sections grouped by year. They include thematic slides telling about a specific historical event. The slides show documentary evidence spotlighting this or that event of the war and pre-war years. In total, the project has collected more than 500 different historical evidence: documents, cipher telegrams, newspaper clippings, leaflets, maps and plans. The user-friendly interface makes it possible to examine each material in detail.

Archival documents, photographs, newsreels, periodicals provided by the leading Russian archives have become documentary sources for the multimedia exhibition The Great Patriotic War, Which Determined the Outcome of World War II. In addition, the project integrates materials from various virtual exhibitions developed by Russian museums and archives, which are available using hyperlinks. A complete list of used sources and documentary repositories is available in the "Information" section.
