Cooperation Council of National Libraries of Russia

The XXV meeting of the Cooperation Council of the National Library of Russia, the Russian State Library and the Presidential Library took place on December 16-17, 2021. The event was held at the National Library of Russia.

The Council is held annually alternately in three national libraries with the participation of managers and representatives (experts) of the libraries. The Council was established in 1996 in order to coordinate and cooperate for the effective implementation of the main functions of national libraries, the formation, preservation and accessibility of the national library collections, the creation of a distributed library and information system of national libraries, providing prompt, free access to information resources for domestic and foreign users. The first agreement on partnership and cooperation between the national libraries of Russia (RSL and NLR) was approved by the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation in 1996. The next agreement between the three national libraries was approved by the Ministry of Culture of Russia in 2011.

The meeting was opened by the heads of the three national libraries about the activities in 2021 and development prospects. Topical issues requiring coordination and development of a unified attitude in four working groups such as "Organization of research, scientific and methodological and scientific and educational activities", "Acquisition", "Book monuments", "Digital transformation of libraries" will be also considered. Decisions and a tripartite protocol will be signed according to the results of the Council's work.
