17 December 2021

A monument to the great Russian writer and philosopher Fyodor Dostoevsky was unveiled in Florence in the city park of Kashin on December 14.

“The choice of the location was not accidental - the writer lived in Florence in August 1852 and from December 1868 to August 1869. It was here in January 1869 that Fyodor Dostoevsky completed one of his most famous novels The Idiot”, - noted the Russian ambassador to Italy, Sergei Razov.

The author of the bronze monument is Russian sculptor, academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Aydin Zeynalov. The height of the monument together with the pedestal is more than 3 meters. The writer stands with his arms crossed on his chest and holds the novel The Idiot. There are broken shackles at his feet.

The unveiling of the monument to Dostoevsky marking the 200th anniversary of his birth is another important evidence of the centuries-old friendship that binds the peoples of Russia and Italy.

A large number of materials dedicated to the Russian classics are available in the large-scale electronic collection of the Presidential Library Fyodor Dostoevsky (1821-1881) which includes digital copies of the texts of his works and publications about the life and work of the writer.

Some of the materials from the electronic collections of the Presidential Library are available on the institution's portal in full as well as at the remote access centers opened in various countries of the world.
