Memory lesson held in Penza as part of the Blockade Bread campaign

January 26, 2022 employees of the Regional Center of the Presidential Library based on the Lermontov Penza Regional Library held a patriotic Blockade Bread campaign for students of school No. 68 in Penza in memory of the heroic defenders of Leningrad and its residents

Schoolchildren were introduced to the collection of the Presidential Library Defence and Siege of Leningrad and were showed a documentary film The Defence of Leningrad. The Siege of Leningrad, which includes fragments of newsreel, clearly showing all the hardships of those terrible years.

The event participants learned that the siege of Leningrad lasted 872 days. According to various estimates, from 692 thousand to 1.5 million people died in the city - and 97% of them died of starvation.

The Virtual Exhibitions section on the Presidential Library’s portal presented students a 3D tour of the State Memorial Museum of the Defence and Siege of Leningrad.

To the beat of a metronome the pupils honored the memory of the victims of the siege with a minute of silence.

The Presidential Library’s portal features the collection Penza Region: Pages of History. It includes archives, essays, studies and statistical materials covering various aspects of the history of the region at the end of the 18th - the first third of the 20th century: demographic, geographical, socio-economic, socio-political and others.
